In some cultures, they are used to honor the dead. In the Indian culture, Marigolds hold especially deep symbolism much richer than in the West and are central to weddings, festivals.
Description: Bushy, vibrant annuals with bright, round, pom-pom-like blooms. Colors range from yellow and gold to deep orange and red. The flowers have a slightly pungent, earthy scent and are often low-maintenance.
Named after: Derived from “Mary’s gold,” referring to the Virgin Mary in medieval Europe, highlighting the golden-orange color of the blooms.

Native to: Mexico and Central America.
Flowering period: Late spring to fall, depending on climate (generally May–October).
Vase life: Typically 3–5 days, as the blooms are delicate and tend to wilt quickly once cut.
Popular use in floral arrangements or bouquets: Common in bright, casual garden bouquets and festive decorations, especially in summer or for cultural events like Día de los Muertos. Often used as accent flowers due to their vibrant colors and compact form.
Pet Toxicity: Mildly toxic to cats and dogs. Ingestion may cause drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea, and contact with the skin may cause irritation. Symptoms are generally not life-threatening but can be uncomfortable for pets.
